IIFET 2022 will take place in Galicia, Spain, from 18-22 July 2022!

More information will be distributed in the coming months. In the meantime, we’ve included some information on the region and the organizers below. Have a look at some of what Galicia and Vigo have to offer and start planning your conference attendance (and maybe some additional traveling in the region before and/or after the conference).

*********

Vigo is the home of Spain's main fishing fleet, handling 850,000 tons of seafood landings per year from a wide variety of countries. The conference center is called "Auditorio Mar de Vigo" with good reason: it looks directly over the sea, the port and the fish auction! It is difficult to imagine a more appropriate location for IIFET members as we seek to integrate economic knowledge for use by academic economists, fishing and aquaculture industries, and government resource managers. This thoroughly modern (though ancient) business-focused city boasts excellent connections, modern hotels, outstanding restaurants, a beautiful port-side promenade, and the new University of Vigo, home to conference organizer Dolores (Loli) Garza-Gil and her team of faculty and students.

Santiago de Compostela is a World Heritage City of history, culture, and home to the regional government of Galicia as well as the 500 year-old University of Santiago de Compostela (home of conference organizer Sebastian Villasante). As the culmination of the renowned "Camino de Santiago" (Way of St. James), it has been a destination for pilgrims since the middle ages. Since many of these pilgrims visit in July, we will make our visit to Santiago a day-trip, to avoid crowds.

Additional leadership on the organizing committee will be provided by Jose ("Pepe") Fernandez Polanco of the University of Cantabria (but born and raised in Galicia) and Fernando González Laxe of the University of A Coruña.
