Japan International Fisheries Research Society (JIFRS)-Yamamoto Award for Best Paper on Responsible Fishing

 

The Award

This award consists of a USD $1,500 check/cash* and a certificate, to be awarded to the selected author at an award ceremony during the IIFET 2024 Penang Conference, 15-19 July 2024, in Penang, Malaysia. (This award does not include free conference registration.)

(*Note: The winner must purchase their own air tickets and meet other expenses in advance of receiving the award. Award funds cannot be provided in advance.)

 

Eligibility

To be eligible to compete for the JIFRS-Yamamoto Award, you must:

  1. Be a citizen of a low/middle/upper income country, as defined by the World Bank.
  2. Submit a useful paper meeting the guidelines below, encouraging the rational development of responsible fisheries in your own country.
  3. Be the primary author of the paper.
  4. Have an abstract accepted for oral, short oral, or poster presentation at the IIFET 2024 Penang conference. You should be in possession of an email indicating the acceptance of your abstract.

 

Submission

Papers may be submitted from 24 January to 15 March 2024. Papers must be submitted by email to [email protected] following the guidelines below.

Your paper must be submitted in the format described here: IIFET 2024 PENANG BEST PAPER AWARD FORMATTING RULES. In order to ensure a fair and “blind” review, please send two separate pdf files as described below.

  1. One file must contain the title of the paper, including all authors’ names and affiliations including professional titles, complete mailing and email contacts, and the abstract. The filename should include the author’s last (family) name, and the abstract number (e.g. Smith123.pdf)
  2. A separate file must contain the paper title, abstract, and body of the paper, plus all references, graphs, etc. All mention of the authors’ names should be removed from this file. Name this file with only the abstract number (e.g., 123.pdf).

Please do not submit a paper for consideration unless your abstract has been accepted. We will only review papers that are formatted in accordance with stipulated guidelines. Papers which do not meet the requirements, especially in terms of length, will not be relayed to the committee for review. Review and Award Process

The files described in item 2 above will be transferred to the chair of JIFRS-Yamamoto Award Review Committee, for a double-blind review process. The award winner(s) will be selected by approximately 15 April 2024; the results will be shared with all applicants for this award by the IIFET Secretariat via email soon after that date. The winner(s)' name(s) will be printed in the conference program and announced during the conference. Please note that the award winners are required to attend the conference and present his/her own paper at the conference.

The winner will receive USD $1,500 cash/check and an award certificate from JIFRS, at an awards ceremony at IIFET 2024 Penang. Attendance of the ceremony is mandatory.

The Review Committee may, if appropriate, elect to award honorable mentions. Honorable mention winners will receive a certificate at the award ceremony during the conference. No financial award or participant support is associated with an honorable mention.

 

Award-winning authors, like all authors presenting work at IIFET conferences, are highly encouraged to submit their papers for inclusion in the online conference proceedings, following the conference. However, if the paper has been, or will be, submitted to a journal or other publication which would consider the papers inclusion in conference proceedings to constitute “prior publication”, authors may choose not to submit the full paper; they may submit a shortened version or an extended abstract instead. After the conference, winners will also be encouraged to submit papers for inclusion in a JIFRS publication, if other publications agree.
